The highway vs side street metaphor for flow state is perfect. That space between stress and play is so precarious, you're right that we constanty overcomplicate ourselves out of it. The bit about bleeding for simplicity captures something real tho, like flow requires sacrifice but the sacrifice is usually just letting go of the illusion that complexity equals better. I've found my best work happens when I stop optimizing and just run the damn race.
